You made a good point, in any particular situation, the response may or may not be racism. It is difficult to sort out the details and assign blame sometimes if you don’t know all the facts.

I’d definitely agree that there’s a real problem(s), but I think the solution is difficult, but rather simple. Racism is an ideology that arbitrarily assigns people to a group or assumes character traits based solely on skin color. As Ayn Rand put it, “Racism is the lowest, most crudely primitive form of collectivism.” and she’s absolutely right. The problem with racism is deeper than one race treating another race bad, the philosophical roots and the issues involved are individualism vs collectivism.

It’s one thing to feel a connection to a group because it represents values that you feel are important(individualism). It’s another thing to think simply belonging to a group is an achievement of those values within yourself.(collectivism)

Racism is just a projection of that collectivistic concept to another person, but with a negative connotation. “they belong to x group, so they must be x”

Advocating the ideology of individualism is the way to defeat racism, as racism is nothing more than a wrongly held set of beliefs.

I definitely agree with miltownpops though! Doing those things would definitely help start to heal race relations. I think most people sort of “inherit” their views on race and never actually think about it for themselves(another form of collectivism). Working together and helping eachother towards common goals would help to establish the right way of thinking in “those people” ;).

PS: what do you think of racial humor?

As Morgan Freeman puts it, stop talking about it? And I like Senator Jay Bullington Bulworth’s solution the best (mind you, it has been a long while since I’ve seen the film).
